Alcohol and prescription drug service
CAPPS is a three-part treatment program for people with alcohol and/or prescription drug dependency including:
- Medically supported inpatient detoxification (if required)
- Two-week intensive inpatient group treatment program
- Six-week half-day outpatient program
CAPPS aims to create a therapeutic environment, emphasising healthy aspects of personal functioning and addressing substance dependency using an integrated model including:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Compassion Focused Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing
- Mindfulness and relaxation
- Group and individual Psychotherapy
CAPPS Inpatient Program
The CAPPS program is designed to assist patients to reduce alcohol and/or prescription drug misuse and dependence, using an integrated treatment model.
Suitable for: Adults with alcohol and/or prescription drug dependency requiring an inpatient program.
Approach: The Program includes individual therapy and group modules addressing psychoeducation about drug use and dependence, strengthening motivation to change, coping with cravings and triggers, managing depression and anxiety, assertiveness, mindfulness, relaxation and lifestyle balance.
Structure: Two-week inpatient group program following initial detoxification.
CAPPS Relapse Prevention Program
The CAPPS Relapse Prevention Program offers ongoing support and group therapy to prevent relapse back to alcohol and prescription drug misuse.
Suitable for: Adults with substance dependency requiring an outpatient program who have completed or do not require a detoxification program.
Approach: Group work aimed at patients who have made changes to their substance use and wish to maintain that change.
Structure: Offered one half day per week for 6 weeks.
Private Health Insurance generally covers the cost of treatment, but patients are advised to check the level of cover their health fund offers for treatment.
