Mental Health Unit
We have two mental health units that treat patients with alcohol and drug and mental health issues. Both wards have communal lounge areas with a large TV where you are able to watch TV with other patients. The lounge also leads out onto a large shaded patio area where you can enjoy the gardens and some quiet time. Both wards have a kitchenette with tea and coffee facilities, an art therapy room, and laundrette.
Unit 1 is a 22-bed ward and also has a library.
You will have your own individual room whilst in Caloundra Private Clinic. Each room is tastefully decorated with a single bed, bedside unit, built in wardrobe and a comfortable easy chair. Attached to each room is an ensuite offering you comfort and privacy. Each room also has its own wall mounted TV unit with access to Foxtel and Free to Air TV. Please note there is no safe in your room in which to keep valuable items. There is a lockable drawer available in the bedside, but it is not ideal for valuable items which are best left at home.
The hospital has Wifi throughout and you are welcome to bring a computer to use in your room.
We have a gymnasium situated in unit 2 with a range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment. A personal trainer conducts two 45-minute training sessions Monday-Friday in the gym. You are free to use the gym outside of group therapy times.
We have exercise bikes, a cross-trainer, running/walking treadmill, fitness balls, gym mats, and a range of free weights. We also have a table tennis table.
For more information on the benefits of exercise for mental health recovery, please see our inpatient services.
Our TMS room is located at the back of the hospital where we also do our Day Programs. This room is dimly lit and designed to be as calming as possible while you are having your TMS treatment.
For further information on what rTMS is and how it works, please see these links for our inpatient and outpatient rTMS services or contact the Patient Services Manager.
Located on Unit 2, this lowly lit room has a massage chair and utilises a variety of different sensory experiences to help reduce distressing emotions. These sensory experiences can be used to relieve the discomfort associated with emotions such as anger, anxiety, panic, extreme sadness and more. This will then equip you with strategies that you can utilise in your own home.
For further information on this, please see this link for our sensory modulation inpatient services.
There is an art room on both wards and these are often used by our patients for recreation. Although we stock some art materials, we recommend that you bring your own especially if you have particular requirements for equipment.
Inpatient Art Therapy occurs in the main Group Rooms and is also referred to as Expressive Therapy.
Unit 1 has a library. This quiet space is for patients to take some time out to use the computer, read a book, or just chill out.
We have a large dining room located between both mental health units. The dining room has indoor and outdoor dining. A seasonal, three week, fresh menu which rotates from summer to winter and we cater for all dietary needs - Gluten Free, Diabetic, Lactose Free, Allergies etc.
The dining room times are:
||7:00am - 8:00am
|| 10:30am - 11:00am
||12:00pm - 1:00pm

Our Outpatient Clinic is located on the right hand side of the clinic near the Day Surgery Unit. You can access the outpatient clinic by parking at the rear of the hospital and walking down the path that follows the road.
